Lidl Ireland is officially opening its latest Galway store today (Thursday ) in Wellpark.
With an investment of more than €8 million, the new outlet will also provide 24 new jobs.
Lidl, which is a supporter of women in sport through its partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, has special guest TG4 All-Star winner Nicola Ward of the Galway Ladies football squad to officially open the store this morning.
Lidl says the new outlet will give access to thousands of customers in the Galway city area to Lidl’s ever increasing product range, as it continues its policy of sustainability through its responsible sourcing from over 230 local Irish suppliers and its protection of the environment through decreased climate impact and continuous improvements in resource efficiency.
Damien Hanniffy, Lidl Wellpark store manager, says after months of preparation, the opening of Lidl Wellpark is fantastic news.
"We are thrilled to be giving customers in the Galway city area the opportunity to make Lidl their new main shop destination where they can start to make real savings. We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new shoppers and settling into the local community over the coming weeks, months and years.”
"The combination of our selected product range at unbeatable prices, along with our weekly promotional offerings, is a welcome addition to the local area."
Lidl has forged a reputation by welcoming customers daily by the smell of freshly baked breads and pastries, which Hannify says is one of Lidl’s most popular features.
"A Lidl to Go coffee machine is also available giving customers the option of a wallet friendly hot beverage for only €1. The new store is bright and airy with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles creating a comfortable shopping experience for customers."
There are 530 car park spaces provided on site for the entire retail park, including reserved spaces for families and disabled shoppers.
"Lidl Ireland continues to lead the way in the area of sustainability, through its responsible sourcing from over 230 local Irish suppliers and its protection of the environment through decreased climate impact and continuous improvements in resource efficiency. All this is achieved whilst maintaining the lowest prices in the market, to ensure Lidl remains the cheapest place to shop," he says.
Welcoming the new Lidl store, Nicola Ward, Galway LGFA Player, says: “I’m delighted to join Lidl this morning for the opening of the new store in Wellpark. It is set to contribute positively to the locality and I am very much looking forward to having a Lidl store in the area and most importantly, in such a convenient location in Galway city.”
