Grants for east Galway

The announcement of CLÁR grants to address safety in schools and the upgrading of local community and sport facilities has been welcomed by Independent councillor Dr Evelyn Parsons.

Recipients of the grants which are focusing on community wellbeing, as well as school safety, include Coláiste an Chreagáin Mountbellew for a bus and car turnaround and drop off area of €50,000 and Glinsk National School, Ballynakill for drop off area and footpaths worth €50,000.

Lawrencetown Community Development Group was also granted €21,549.02 for amenity area works.

Speaking on the grants; Cllr Parsons said the grants were helping to improve the quality of life in rural communities.

She said; “I’m delighted to welcome news from [Deputy] Denis Naughten, chairperson of the Joint Oireachtas Committee Community and Rural Affairs, that applications for improving school safety has been approved for Coláiste an Chreagáin in Mountbellew and Glinsk National School, Ballynakill.

“In addition, it is great to see that the upgrading of local community facilities at Lawrencetown has been approved with a focus on community wellbeing.

"By supporting these investments CLÁR is helping to improve safety and the quality of life in rural communities for families with young children."
