Funding for Galway Hospice vital for 'maintaining critical care services' says Crowe

Hospice receives €750,000 as part of overall allocation of €10 million for organisations providing palliative and end-of-life care

Galway Hospice is set to benefit from once off funding of €750,000. The money will go towards improvements works, ICT systems, telehealth and telemedicine platforms, and education and training programmes.

The funding from the Department of Health is part of an overall allocation of €10 million divided between 15 different groups providing palliative and end-of-life care.

Fianna Fáil senator Ollie Crowe has welcomed the funding, saying they will support Galway Hospice in "maintaining critical and ongoing care services for patients" and will allow for the implementation of "some of the innovations being used by palliative care providers in recent months, including the provision of virtual supports.”

.

The money is to offset lost fundraised income as a direct result of restrictions to counter the spread of Covid-19. "This shortfall could be a risk to their services were it not for this funding," said Sen Crowe. "Galway Hospice has provided comfort to so many families in some of their toughest times and most challenging days. It is very welcome that the Government has made this much needed investment.”
