Sr Gerarda Lawler Principal at Salerno Secondary, Salthill is celebrating her thirtieth year as school leader.
Salerno is recognised nationally as one of Ireland’s leading secondary schools, and Sr. Gerarda, principal at the school for three decades, has played a huge part in the development of the school, its popularity, its successes and its achievements.
She is widely admired for her wisdom, leadership, progressive thinking, kindness, care, professionalism and humour. Since her appointment in 1991, she has overseen many changes - Salerno has doubled in size, the addition of two new classroom blocks and a state-of- the-art sports hall.
She has led her school community through curriculum changes, examination challenges, inspections, budget cuts and even a pandemic. However, she always maintains her positive can-do attitude and keeps her students, staff, and families at the heart of all she does.
The Salerno school community recently honoured Sr. Gerarda and will celebrate her thirtieth year as Principal later in the school year, when restrictions permit, as she continues to lead and inspire.
