Autumn and spice and everything nice

Autumn has arrived, and with it, crisp mornings and cold evenings. It is the perfect time to curl up on the couch with a hot seasonal drink to warm up. These autumn drink recipes are easy to make and are sure to be the perfect pick-me-up after a cold day.

First on the list is a hot apple cider rum punch. This drink encompasses all of the classic autumnal flavours, from spices to seasonal fruits. This tasty drink can be created using eight cups of apple cider, sliced apple, sliced orange, two cinnamon sticks, and two cups of dark rum. Simply combine all the ingredients in a large pot and bring to the boil. Gradually reduce heat and allow to simmer for five minutes. A tasty hot drink with a kick.

A cosy autumn night on the couch would not be complete without a toasty cup of hot chocolate. Whether you make it from scratch or use cocoa powder, eg, Cadbury drinking chocolate, this drink is sure to go down a treat. Pick your favourite bar of chocolate (preferably bittersweet ), chop it up finely and melt it. In a pot place two cups of whole milk and leave to simmer at a medium heat until frothy. Carefully add the melted chocolate into the pot with the milk, mixing it through thoroughly. Turn off the heat and add a dash of vanilla extract for extra flavour. Serve with chocolate shavings, whipped cream, and marshmallows.
