Baboró ambassador — Aarav Sakhrelia

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is in full swing and you can still enjoy a wide range of online activities and an outdoor art trail right up until this Sunday. Each year we feature individuals who are passionate about Baboró. This week’s Baboró Ambassador is Aarav Sakhrelia. Aarav is seven years old and is a pupil of St. Patrick Primary School. His hobbies include playing piano, guitar, reading books and creating art. He has been attending Baboró since he was two.

One of my favourite Baboró memories is the theatre show ‘Black Beauty’. This was the first time I got to experience a live performance. I enjoyed watching the fun and adventurous storytelling. Each year I look forward to the Baboró festival to get surprised. I got inspired to learn Hip Hop & street dance after experiencing ‘Francis Footwork’. It was really cool. To add more to my favourite list ‘JabberBabble’, a story about four birds and one nest. A musical show ‘Carnival of Animals’ where I saw a lot of new instruments making different sounds

Baboró is important to Galway and to children because it is a festival that everyone can enjoy with friends and family. While I am doing art or playing music I use my imagination and take inspiration from my surroundings so it’s also a new and fun way of learning and creating art. The shows, workshops and exhibitions are interesting, inspiring and encouraging. It helps young kids like me to think differently and express their feelings in different forms of art.

I’m really looking forward to this year’s Baboró Festival because this year while in lockdown due to the pandemic I have spent time creating a few artworks like colouring stones and shells so I am looking forward to creating more of those for Colour My life: Brighten your Day - the outdoor art trail. Also thanks to Baboró for organizing a lot of online events this year which brings shows directly to our home. I am excited to know more about the The University of Wonder & imagination and Mountain Goat Mountain. shows.

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is on until this Sunday,18 October. For full details see www.baboro.ie
