Historic day for Salthill-Knocknacarra camogie

Salthill-Knocknacarra camogie team made history at the weekend, winning the Junior A county final on Sunday.

It ensures Salthill-Knocknacarra camogie will complete in the intermediate championship next year for the first time.

Salthill-Knocknacarra met Sarsfields in the final in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe, winning by a single point, 1-12 to 1-11.

The game was close throughout the entire match, but the city girls pulled away in the end with Laura Kelly scoring the final point in injury time to win the game. Kelly was in top-class striking form, scoring all 1-12, and was the deserved winner of the Player of the Match award.

Led by captain Orla Callanan, Salthill-Knockncarra boasted strong performances from Orla Callanan, Siobhan Divilly, Evie Hayes, Aisling Griffin and Sorcha McGinley.
