Voluntary groups, charities, and social enterprises in Galway are to benefit from Government funding of close to €400,000 to alleviate financial difficulties and ensure they continue to provide services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Two local community organisations will receive grants of between €2,345 and €200,000 through the Covid-19 Stability Fund. Croí West of Ireland Heart and Stroke Foundation will receive the maximum €200,000 to help maintain its services in the region.
Galway Autism Partnership has been allocated €34,204, while Act for Meningitis is set to receive €33,258. Claregalway & District Day Care Centre has been awarded €34,651, and Galway Head Injury Support will receive €6,142. Independent Living Ireland, AMACH! LGBT+, Tuam Cancer Care, and Ballinasloe Social Services are among the other groups that will receive between €2,345 and €29,974. Galway-based organisations will share a total of €390,268.

The allocations have been welcomed by the Fine Gael Galway West TD and Minister for International and Road Transport and Logistics, Hildegarde Naughton.
“The Government is working to protect as many organisations, businesses, and individuals as possible from the unprecedented difficulties created by the coronavirus crisis, to the greatest extent possible,” she said. “This scheme specifically seeks to protect groups and charities that provide really important services to vulnerable people, which are struggling to make ends meet in the extremely challenging environment that has resulted from Covid-19.
