Saturday is a big day for Galway handballer Martin Mulkerrins, who will contest the senior singles 60x30 decider. It is the Moycullen man's first appearance in the big alley final, and he is bidding to bridge an 80-year gap when the last Galway winner, Michael Walsh, won the title in 1940.
Mullkerrins now face seven-times champion, Westmeath's Robbie McCarty, in the decider.
Mulkerrins, who has twice won the senior one-wall championship in 2016, 2019, as well as claiming the coveted senior singles 40x20 title in 2018, will be gunning to become one of few players to hold all three senior titles. He advanced to the final last weekend in Crinkle, Co Offaly, when he defeated Wexford's Barry Goff in two straight games.
He enjoyed an emphatic 21-5 win in the first, but was pushed all the way in the second, which finished 21-19.
