Man rescued from River Corrib by heroic Olivers

Man rescued by Patrick and Morgan Oliver and taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway

A man was rescued from the River Corrib yesterday morning by the father and son who famously rescued two girls at sea last month.

The man was seen in the water by a pedestrian who contacted the Coastguard shortly before 9am. The rescue services were activated and Galway RNLI Lifeboat launched from Galway Docks within minutes.

The man was rescued by Patrick and Morgan Oliver and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway.

Barry Heskin, deputy launch authority, Galway Lifeboat, said; “The quick response of the pedestrian was crucial in activating the rescue services to get to the man in time”.

The lifeboat crew were Brian Niland (Helmsman ), Oliver Byrne, and James Rhattigan.
