"Merlin College - Nobody is different because everybody is", is a line that has been used in Merlin College since its’ inception in 2013 to celebrate the great diversity that exists in the school. The beauty and drive that comes from such diversity is not only reflected in the sporting, cultural and artistic endeavours of the students but the academic also, as is evident again, from this year’s Leaving Certificate Results.
As a relatively new school, students in Merlin College have only completed the Leaving Certificate programme twice, beginning in 2019, with the points in the top tier of results i.e. 500 points or above more than trebling from last year alone and with a significant amount achieving 400 points or above also. The sole student who studied Leaving Cert Applied received the highest level of Distinction also.
The school believes the reason for such success is due in part to the mandatory TY Programme in Merlin which allows students to approach their studies with a greater level of confidence and maturity along with having a dynamic and progressive teaching staff who are committed to their students’ studies no matter what level or ability.
School Principal John Cleary, although delighted to see the academic achievements of his students and the progress being made in various areas of school life, was keen to stress that the most important aspect of coming to school at Merlin College was that every student left believing they were valued, were given a chance, and were a happier human being.
