Cultural centre and new apartments planned for Merchant’s Road

Eight two-bedroom apartments to be created at Nos 17 to 20 Merchant’s Road Lower

Plans for a cultural centre, café, and apartments on Merchant’s Road Lower will help "enhance and revitalise the city centre", according to Fine Gael senator Seán Kyne.

Following a tender process, the Galway City Council is reviewing bids for the proposed development at the terraced buildings at Nos 17 to 20 Merchant’s Road Lower. With an investment of more than €2.7 million, excluding VAT, the development would include eight two-bedroom apartments, a roof garden, a cultural centre, and a café.

“This project has great potential to revitalise this part of the city centre," said Sen Kyne. "With a contract duration of 36 months, this re-development plan complements the exciting plans for the enhancement and major refurbishment of the current city museum and Comerford House. It will add to the cultural life of our city while also promoting and facilitating city-living."
