More than 90 houses set for refurbishment works across the city and county

Galway local authorities get more than €1 million to refurbish homes

Ninety-one housing units across the city and county stand in line for major refurbishments following an allocation of more than €1 million to Galway's local authorities.

Galway City Council has been allocated €666,000 in total to refurbish and renovate vacant units and provide homes for 68 families. The funding in the city includes over €100,000 to provide new homes for nine homeless households. In the county, €382,000 will be invested by the Council to refurbish 23 houses which will be allocated to families on the housing

Boost for families and local businesses

The funding is part of an overall national allocation of almost €40 million which is part of the July Stimulus. Fine Gael Senator Seán Kyne welcomed the allocation, and said it would "provide homes for more than 90 families". He added that it would also be "a much-needed boost for local businesses that will be contracted to carry out the refurbishments".
