Galway WFC look to close gap on leaders

Galway WFC head to south Dublin on Saturday with a spring in their step having produced a 1-1 draw with leaders Shelbourne in the Women's National League at the weekend.

Last weekend's draw was the first time Shelbourne have been denied victory this season, and it could well have been a defeat. Galway WFC, currently in fourth place, more than held their own, and created numerous chances, only to be denied by some good goalkeeping from Rachel Kelly.

Chloe Singleton gave Galway the lead after intercepting a Rebecca Cooke pass and striking the ball from outside the box after 29 minutes.

Shelbourne goalkeeper Galway Rachel Kelly denied both Lynsey McKey and Aoife Thompson before Shels replied after 60 minutes from Ciara Grant.

Galway WFC: Amanda Budden; Savannah McCarthy, Shauna Fox, Keara Cormican, Shauna Brennan; Chloe Singleton (Sinead Donovan 88 ), Tessa Mullins, Meabh de Burca; Aoife Thompson, Aislinn Meaney (Ellerose O'Flaherty 57 ), Lynsey McKey (Jamie Turrentine 88 ).
