Man abusive to woman at Silver Strand

Gardaí in Salthill Garda Station are investigating an incident which occurred at Silver Strand, Barna, Galway between 6pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday September 1.

A male who is described as being in his late 30s / early 40s, thin build with short dark hair and wearing a grey tracksuit bottom with a brown pullover was verbally abusive to a female in the area around the changing facilities.

There were a number of people in the area at the time and gardaí are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may know the identity of the male involved to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720.

Drill stolen in Doughiska

On Saturday September 5 between 22.30pm and 6am, a Maroon Peugeot Partner van was broken into at the entrance to Fearann Ri, Doughiska.

The driver’s fly window was smashed and a green Makita Corded Drill was taken. Anyone who may have witnessed anyone acting suspiciously or who may have been offered the power tool for sale is asked to contact Oranmore Garda Station on 091 388030.

Herterich Quinn calls for land purchase

Athenry area councillor Shelly Herterich Quinn has called on the Galway County Council to purchase the derelict lands at Caheroyan, Athenry for affordable housing under pillar three of the Rebuilding Ireland Plan.

Submitting the motion at Tuesday’s Athenry municipal district meeting at County Hall, Cllr Quinn said; “In 2005, planning was granted for 27 houses. At present, there is overgrown vegetation encroaching onto private property, youths are climbing up a large mound of earth, throwing stone,s and breaking windows. There are also abandoned shipping containers where antisocial behaviour is taking place.”
