A Galway county councillor is calling for the Minister of Education Norma Foley, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan, and Bus Éireann to provide extra school buses to meet demand.
At Tuesday’s Athenry Municipal District meeting at County Hall, Fine Gael councillor David Collins said extra services would allow children to get to school safely.
Cllr Collins also proposed that the municipal district write to both ministers and Bus Éireann to highlight the the issue of concessionary tickets.
He told the chamber it was an unfair system of choosing who gets a bus ticket and who does not.
