Three new music hubs for Galway's young people

From September, children and young people in Galway will have access to three new music hubs – one in Ballinasloe, one in Clifden, and Wellpark Music Hub in Galway city. The new music hubs will offer affordable weekly music lessons to ages six to 18.

The music hubs will be a creative space where young people can play together, develop their musical talents, and perform. Instrumental tuition options include drum kit, guitar, violin, cello, and flute as well as larger ensemble music-making with samba drumming and ukulele orchestra.

There are huge benefits to learning and playing music. As well as being fun for young people to play with their peers, overall wellbeing is improved, self-esteem increases, and participating in musical groups promotes friendships and a sense of belonging.

No instrument? No problem! Music Generation Galway has a musical instrument bank with a large range of instruments available for hire at very reasonable rates. Music Generation’s goal is to develop performance music provision county-wide and to maximise local and community involvement in its programmes. The organisation works closely with many local partners to create new opportunities for children and young people to engage in music in inspiring ways.

Registration for the hubs is now open. To register contact musicgeneration [email protected] or 091 874557. Places are limited.

Music Generation Galway County and City are part of Music Generation, Ireland’s national music education programme, initiated by Music Network and co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, the Department of Education and Skills, and Local Music Education Partnerships.
