The GRETB Training Centre is working hard to ensure the safe return and wellbeing of learners and staff as they navigate a new training and education landscape, where learners can enjoy the training centre experience through blended and online engagement. The GRETB Training Centre will continue to offer a wide range of training courses using full time, part time, or blended learning delivery methods. All courses are run subject to guidelines issued by the Department of Education and Skills which will be in line with the Government roadmap for reopening society and business and plans for how the Covid-19 restrictions will be lifted.
All of courses offered by the GRETB Training Centre are certified, and accredited by national and internationally recognised examining and professional bodies
Construction work is also ongoing to fit out the new state of the art plumbing workshop in the GRETB Training Centre. The work is due to be completed in October which will allow the return of the first plumbers to be trained in the west of Ireland since 2010.
The centre already has fully equipped workshops for carpentry and joinery, electrical, motor mechanic and metal fabrication apprenticeship delivery, CAD/CNC and welding workshops, and several IT suites.
Training for cleanroom operator is available in the cleanroom training facility and is ideally suited to support learners to find employment in the medical device manufacturing industry in Galway.
Skills to Advance (STA ) is a new national initiative aimed towards small to medium enterprises the scheme offers free (subject to criteria ) upskilling and reskilling opportunities to employees. The initiative benefits both the employees and SMEs through engagement in education and training programmes. The centre's STA coordinator can assist SMEs to identify their training needs and provide training to their workforce. Apprenticeship programmes for Galway and Roscommon are administered through the training centre. An apprenticeship is a programme of education and training which combines learning in the workplace with learning in a training centre or educational college. An apprenticeship can be from two years to four years in duration, they range from QQI Level 5 to QQI Level 9 and the apprentice is paid for the duration of the apprenticeship. As well as the traditional trades such as plumbing and electrical, the centre offers new apprenticeships in areas such as auctioneering, arboriculture, manufacturing, finance, laboratory technician, accounting technician, insurance practitioner, and many more.
