Delays at Galway Pain Clinic 'unacceptable', says Ó Cuív

1,353 people are on the out-patient waiting list while 187 have not yet received an appointment

Waiting time for out-patient appointments on the Pain Service Waiting List was 1,924 days, a situation that is "completely unacceptable" and which must be "tackled as a matter of urgency".

This is the view of Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív, who added that blaming delays in appointments on Covid-19 was "false" as waiting lists pre-date the pandemic.

“There are a total of 1,353 people on the out-patient waiting list and of these, 187 have not yet received an appointment despite waiting more than 48 months," he said. " “In relation to the in-patient waiting list, there are just over 1,000 on the waiting list and 113 on this list are waiting 18 months or more."

The Cornamona based TD is calling on the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, to make "urgent resources" available to deal with this issue and ensure "people are not suffering in pain because of a lack of basic services".
