'Can I Speak To A Manager?' - The Clockworks release new single

New single, out via Creation 23, is 'one of the starkest and darkest tracks' by the County Galway quartet

TOMORROW, FRIDAY August 14, The Clockworks - one of the most exciting bands to come out of Galway in recent years - will release their new single, 'Can I Speak To A Manager?'.

The single will be released via Alan McGee’s Creation 23 label, which this summer is marking it's second birthday. The single is part of a series of releases from Creation 23, with McGee showcasing a new single from a variety of bands every month for the remainder of 2020.

'Can I Speak To A Manager?' draws on the personal experiences of lead singer and lyricist James McGregor, who found himself taking refuge from the drudgery of his 9 to 5 job in a number of café’s and pubs during his lunch break. His infatuation with the monotony of the rat-run routine, as well as the purchase of a faulty laptop, served as springboards for thoughts about the wider failings of society.

A stark and dark track

.

“Musically I think it is one of the starkest and darkest tracks that we have,” says McGregor [pictured above]. “In essence it’s a simple story of getting a dodgy laptop and having no luck on the phone to the company who sold it. Without the 'fast-food distraction' factor I hoped the laptop would provide, I looked around for something else to do and found nothing. Nothing on TV, nothing in the fridge, showering for some purpose. Spending money to try and buy some purpose just makes me more cynical. I wanted to sort of drill in the phrase “Can I speak to a Manager?” to get a feeling that everywhere I look, that question is there.”

The Clockworks are James McGregor (vocals/guitar ), Sean Connelly (guitar ), Damian Greaney (drums ), and Tom Freeman (bass ). See https://creation23.co.uk.
