County councillors agree to electronic payslips

The Galway County Council has agreed to have all payslips for councillors and staff electronically distributed and to discontinue the use of payslips being printed and posted on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis.

However, councillors do have the choice to an opt out preference if they still want to receive their payslip in the post as some may not have the technology to receive it electronically.

It was also agreed that the cost savings in administration, printing, paper and postaged would be re-distributed to the environmental section of the council.

The motion which was tabled by Loughrea-area councillor Geraldine Donohue at the local authority's plenary meeting at GMIT on Friday morning will now be circulated to all 31 local authorities in the country.
