Mayor and CEO cut ribbon as Harvey Norman opens in city

Mayor Mike Cubbard was on hand yesterday (Wednesday ) with Peter Hearn, Harvey Norman Ireland CEO to cut the ribbon to open the newest Harvey Norman store in Gateway Shopping Park, Knocknacarra, Galway. The store and warehouse employs nearly 60 people.

This is the 16th Harvey Norman store on the island of Ireland and covers 60,000 square feet of appliances, technology and interiors. Speaking at the launch, Mr Hearn said they were excited to open the doors to their Galway store.

"From the moment you walk in, it has the wow factor and we are all extremely proud of this store. With so many styles and budgets catered for, as well as highlighting Irish brands, our interiors showroom is a trend setting and inspirational space. We have a full floor dedicated to the latest appliances and technology for everything from cooking to gaming.

"Our Galway customers will have the latest and best offerings from global brands across two floors. We have created 60,000 square feet of safe shopping excellence.” Safe shopping measures including social distancing markings, hand sanitizers plus monitoring of in-store numbers which are all in place," he added.

The Galway store also features an impressive kitchen display area, a LoveTech Team - Harvey Norman’s in-store technology experts – a Wonder Photo Shop, Games Hub and more. Harvey Norman will celebrate 17 years in Ireland next month with Galway bringing the total stores in the Republic of Ireland to 14.

A new store is planned for Sligo with opening anticipated for October of this year. In addition, there are two stores in Northern Ireland. Mr Hearn said he is proud to say Harvey Norman is truly committed to our operations here in Ireland. By opening our new Galway store we will continue the growth and expansion of our great brand throughout Ireland.”
