Pálás Cinema to re-open next week

Cinema to host 40th anniversary screening of The Empire Strikes Back; venue bar and restaurant has new menu

The Pálás Cinema is re-opening on Monday July 27. It will be fully compliant with Government guidelines on Covid-19; there will be screenings of classic films; and the restaurant will have a new menu.

Film fans will have much to look forward to as the Pálás hosts a series of classic film screenings and themed events. “It has been a very long four months for lovers of cinema," said Pálás programmer Charlene Lydon. "I’m so excited to finally be able to share a cinema experience again. Our programme is bursting with fun stuff to lure you back to the magic of the big screen."

The cinema will be showing the new release, Saint Frances, a dark indie comedy dealing with an unwanted pregnancy; there will also be 40th anniversary screenings of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and the black and white edition of Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite.

The late, great, Ennio Morricone, who composed so much unforgettable music for film, will be remembered with a season of films scored by him; there will also be screenings of animated classics from Japan's mighty Studio Ghibli. There will also be a David Lynch season and screenings of classics such as Casablanca, Roman Holiday, Call Me By Your Name, and Mean Girls.

The cinema book club will host a screening of Clueless, based on Jane Austen’s Emma. There will also be a screening of Britain's National Theatre Live’s production of Fleabag. For bookings go to www.palas.ie

The cinema's bar and restaurant have been renamed The Pálás Kitchen & Bar and new menus have been developed for lunch, brunch and film themed supper clubs. “We’ve been working hard while we’ve been away to refresh our menu full with some new additions," said head chef, Liga Jarovoja, "as well as your old favourites, perfect for a quick bite before you see a film.” Bookings for Pálás Kitchen & Bar can be made via [email protected].
