An Taobh Tuathail to celebrate tenth birthday in the Róisín Dubh

SINCE IT began broadcasting on Raidió na Gaeltachta in May 1999, An Taobh Tuathail has become essential listening if you want to keep abreast of innovative trends in rock, dance, electronic, and world music.

An Taobh Tuathail is broadcast Mondays to Fridays from 11pm to 1am and this month it celebrates its 10th birthday. To mark this milestone the Róisín Dubh will host the An Taobh Tuathail 10th birthday tomorrow at 8pm with performances from the excellent Dublin based indie/mood rock band Halfset, Tiny Magnetic Pets, and the brilliant The Lost Chord, led by Dave Phelan [see this week’s Proust Questionnaire].

Following these performances, An Taobh Tuathail presenter Cian Ó Cíobháin, will be on DJ duties. The entire show will be broadcast live on RnaG that night.

Cian is originally from An Ghráig in Kerry, but has become a fixture on the Galway scene with An Taobh Tuathail, 110th Street, and SiSi. He sums up his approach to the show thus: “If I don’t play at 30 to 40 per cent new music in a show I feel it hasn’t been a success so I feel I have a duty to play good new bands. It’s about finding and listening.”

Admission is free. See also www.rte.ie/rnag/antaobhtuathail html and www.myspace.com/antaobhtuathail
