Galway 2020 approved funding for re-imagined programme

GALWAY 2020's re-imagined programme "will now become a reality" according to the organisation, following Government approval for it's re-imagined programme of events.

Galway 2020's schedule of events for European Capital of Culture were upended this year with the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown. However, it said it would return with a re-imagined which would run throughout the autumn and winter, and go into early next year.

This has now been made possible following approval of the remaining funding by Catherine Martin, the Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport, and the Gaeltacht. The announcement follows extensive discussions between Minister Martin's department, the EU Commission, and Galway 2020.

"The focus of the re-imagined programme is primarily on the local and national artists from the programme that won Galway 2020 the European Capital of Culture designation," Galway 2020 said. "Ensuring that these projects could be delivered, to help sustain the local cultural economy in light of the devastating impact of Covid 19 on the sector, has been the priority for Galway 2020."

The new Galway 2020 programme will be announced in the coming weeks.
