Blackrock diving tower to get fresh coat of paint

Cllr Clodagh Higgins welcomes re-painting of iconic and much photographed Salthill structure

Salthill's iconic Blackrock diving tower to get a new coat of paint, a move one local councillor has welcomed in the wake of the structure looking "shoddy" on the front page of a national daily paper.

The Galway City Council is to appoint a painting contractor to paint the diving tower. That the local authority is doing this "at a time when there are so many demands on resources", has been praised by Fine Gael Galway City West councillor, Clodagh Higgins.

"Blackrock diving tower is one of the most photographed landmarks in Galway and it is crucial it is maintained appropriately," said Cllr Higgins. "The tower was looking shoddy and nothing highlighted it more than the national coverage it recently got when it was splashed on the front page of a national daily paper."

She said with lockdown restrictions easing and more people swimming in Blackrock, "it is only right and proper that it is in the best condition possible".
