Galway’s elite gymnasts return to training

Galway's quartet of high performance gymnasts, Emma Slevin, Jane Heffernan, Kate Molloy and Blaithnid Higgins, have returned to training in Dublin.

The four are part of a select group of gymnasts who were able to return to training at the National Gymnastics Training Centre as part of Phase 2 of the Government’s plan to ease Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The gymnasts and their support staff were approved for return to training for the first time since March under Sport Ireland and the Irish Government's Roadmap following strict protocols of social distancing, hand sanitisation, and other measures.

All four girls, who are members of the Renmore Gymnastics Club, which based in Ballybrit, Galway, are part of the Irish senior women’s squad.

The Galway gynmasts, with their coach Sally Batley, have worked hard over many years to achieve this current elite level. They will now spend time in the Dublin campus before returning to the RGC gymnastics facility in Ballybrit, which will reopen within days of the introduction of Phase three on June 29.
