O’Donnellan & Joyce will hold nationwide property auctions in Galway city on July 3 and 24. The auctions will be held remotely and interested parties can register to bid by telephone and online. As there will be no live audience, other than those conducting the phone and internet bidding on behalf of intending purchasers, the auction can be watched live online.
Auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan will be on the podium in the Harbour Hotel, New Dock Street, Galway, at 2pm along with the staff of O’Donnellan & Joyce who will be taking telephone and internet bids through the new system which will be displayed on the live screen that will be broadcast over the internet and also on the auction house’s social media platforms.
It will certainly be a far cry from the busy sales room in the John B Keane suite of the Harbour Hotel where O’Donnellan & Joyce regularly holds its live auctions, with more than 300 people usually in attendance. With the change in business environment due to the Covid-19 pandemic, O’Donnellan & Joyce is confident that its property auctions will attract many viewers and bidders as the property market demand for homes continues and many buyers have waited patiently for property viewings to recommence on June 8.
The live streamed auctions in July will allow O’Donnellan & Joyce to proceed with its property auctions after having to postpone the April and June auctions due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The auctions will be live streamed in high definition and each lot will be accompanied by a live screen and bidders will be invited to participate by phone and internet bidding. Each bid will be recorded on the screen for all to see but the identity of the bidder will remain anonymous.
Colm O’Donnellan said: “This is definitely a first for me as I will take to the rostrum with no live audience. We hope to be able to replicate the excitement typically found in the O’Donnellan & Joyce live auction room. We believe it will be an exciting event and the beginning of a new era in which the best of live auctions will marry with the latest technology.”
