West region accounts for just four per cent of all cases in the country

369 cases of the virus confirmed in Galway, 510 in Mayo, and 181 in Roscommon

A total of 1,060 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the HSE West region, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre’s latest Covid-19 epidemiology report. This figure represents 4.9 per cent of the overall number of cases in the country.

There were 369 cases of the virus confirmed in Galway, 510 in Mayo, and 181 in Roscommon at the time of going to press on Wednesday evening.

The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 among healthcare workers in the HSE West area totalled 242. Regarding their travel status, seven of them had been abroad but 82 had not.

According to the latest figures, there were 33 clusters or outbreaks of the virus in nursing homes in the HSE West area. Four clusters were recorded in residential institutions, five in hospitals, and 21 in private houses.

Two clusters were reported in workplaces, four in community hospital long stay units, and two were travel related. Three were community outbreaks while one cluster was in an extended family.
