Galway Community Circus Mayhem festival goes online

Mayhem Youth Circus Festival to run from Friday May 22 to Sunday 24 on YouTube, Facebook, and Zoom

GALWAY COMMUNITY Circus, the national and international flagship organisation for youth and social circus based in Shantalla, will present its end of term youth festival online this weekend.

Mayhem Youth Circus Festival will run from Friday May 22 to Sunday 24 on YouTube, Facebook, and Zoom, featuring a circus table quiz, a show night, a movie night, circus talks, and other activities. It will be available for members and the general public to watch, for free.

"Mayhem Festival is about fun, vibrancy, and the awesome community we work with year round," says executive creative director, Ulla Hokkanen. "This was not how we originally intended to have our end of year celebration, but we feel inspired by our young people and the circus community to bring our community together at this time."

The school, which has a membership of more than 600, has been closed due to the Covid-19 lockdown since March 12. In response to the cancellation of classes at the centre, GCC has been running a Circus@Home programme featuring handstand classes, family circus, juggling, and strength and flexibility training.
