GALWAY WILL be part of an international comedy festival taking place this Saturday, online, as the world unites across 24 hours to enjoy as feast of laughter in spite of the lockdown.
The Róisín Dubh's Comedy KARLnival will be part of the 24 Hour Comedy Festival this Saturday [May 16], which will see 24 continuous hours of stand up comedy, one time zone at a time, and from around the entire planet. The Galway contribution is at 8pm and will feature Phil Nichol, Tanyalee Davis, and John Colleary, along with MC, Karl Spain.
The line-up
Phil Nichol, winner of the If.comedy award (formerly the Perrier ) at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, is an acclaimed actor, comedian, producer, presenter, writer and musician. He has an unquenchable thirst to break boundaries and is an unparalleled improviser.
“It is like spending an hour in a comedy jacuzzi,” said The Scotsman, while the Edinburgh Guide declared Nichol "the sexiest, funniest, dichotomy on a stage today - vulnerable but kicks ass, smart but dumb, a lovely guy who does appaling things".
Tanyalee Davis is a feisty 3’6” Canadian comedian who has headlined at comedy clubs, colleges, and festivals around the world. She has supported Frankie Boyle and appeared on Live at the Apollo, The Last Leg, and The John Bishop Show, and performed in such films as El Matador and Austin Powers 3: Goldmember.
John Colleary has co-written and starred in the IFTA nominated The Savage Eye and Irish Pictorial Weekly. He also scooped a PPI award for his topical sketch writing and performance on Today FM’s The Last Word. He has played the Vodafone Comedy Carnival and Electric Picnic, and Capital Comedy said he is "worth seeing again and again and again".
How to watch
The show starts at 8pm via facebook.com/roisindubhcomedy, and is free to watch as a ‘Pay What You Want’ event. Donations can be made via the Róisín's Ko-Fi account. These will go towards the performers and Comedy Gives Back: Laugh Aid, a US registered non-profit organisation to help working comedians who have lost gigs and income due to the Coronavirus.
To be part of the action, and join the 'backstage' of the live-stream, buy an audience ticket on Eventbrite for €8. Ticket holders will be sent a Zoom invite at 7.30pm, where they can enjoy some craic and banter before the show starts. This ticket also gives free entry to any Tuesday night Comedy KARLnival once live comedy recommences in the Róisín Dubh.
