"A STATUE of Mary winked at me and told me to confess..." is a memorable line from 'An Apparition in Connemara', the new single from County Galway singer-songwriter Me Auld Flower.
Understated, yet haunting - mainly due to Me Auld Flower's wistful vocals and Darren Concannon's fiddle - lilting and gently melodic, yet left-field with its sparse, atmospheric, production and eccentric structure, it is an impressive composition, highlighting an individual folk talent.
The single, which is taken from Me Auld Flower's debut album The Vaults of Consciousness, will be released across all digital platforms tomorrow [Friday May 8].
'An Apparition in Connemara', like the rest of the album, was recorded in An Spidéal, the Inagh Valley, and Galway city, with Me Auld Flower joined by A Band Called Wanda's Darren Concannon and Brendan Dolan (brass ); Ensemble Ériú's Neil O’Loghlen (double bass ); and Tomorrow's Conor Deasy (piano ). The album was produced by singer-songwriter Eoin Dolan.
