Fundraising for Galway COPE Meals on Wheels to help our most vulnerable

Galway Hooker Sailing Club, in association with Galway Bay Seafoods, is joining forces with COPE to raise funds for the vulnerable in our community during the Covid19 crisis.

Galway Hooker Sailing Club is a non-for-profit community group that typically runs training courses to recruit new crew for community-based Galway Hooker restoration projects. The main objective of the club is to preserve these iconic symbols of Galway to share with a wider audience our rich maritime history and Wild Atlantic way of life.

The club raise funds within the club and accept donations, mainly from volunteers and local businesses. In addition, they have secured mainstream funding from government bodies to build and maintain the boats.

“Our volunteers and professional crew members are from all over the world. They are dedicated to our club and community, and want to offer their assistance by turning the tide and raising enough funds for Galway COPE Meals on Wheels to ensure that no-one in our city and county goes hungry.

“COPE offers a vital service in our community. Currently, it is running additional services to assist the elderly, and those most at risk,” said the club.

Galway Hooker Sailing Club invites you to support their valuable work with a donation that will go toward helping the most needy during this unprecedented crisis. Not only will it provide meals to people who may otherwise find themselves very vulnerable, it will also enable staff to check in and make sure that everyone is safe and well.

“Our partner, Galway Bay Seafoods, is a local business dedicated to supporting Ireland’s fishermen/women and helping to sustain the Irish fishing industry.

“Galway Bay Seafoods has kindly offered to supply Meals on Wheels with fish. We have set up a raffle to raise funds for COPE.

“The prizes in the raffle include vouchers for Galway Bay Seafood’s restaurant and deli counter, boat trips with Galway Bay Boat Tours, a stay at Corrib View Farm B&B Annaghdown and a six-week yoga and mindfulness series, with AKYOGA.

“All prizes can be redeemed when government guidelines have been lifted (subject to terms and conditions ). There is no expiry date on these prizes.

Galway Hooker Sailing Club have also set up a donation page on GoFundMe if you would prefer to make a donation to COPE through this platform. www.galwayhooker2020.org
