Completed college an important new chapter for education in Athenry says Cannon

An East Galway TD has said that the completed Clarin College is “an important new chapter for education in Athenry”.

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon paid tribute to the resilience of students around the county and the “extraordinary circumstances” they have had to work under over the past number of weeks.

Minister Cannon said; “I am delighted to see the images that have been posted on social media of the newly completed Clarin College which is the model of what an educational facility of the 21st century should look like. I had the privilege of turning the first sod on this project back in October 2018 and I believe that its completion and anticipated opening this coming September is an important new chapter for education in Athenry, particularly in view of the extraordinary circumstances under which our students have been obliged to work over the past number of weeks.

“With the completion of this significant build and the new Presentation College, students in Athenry and the surrounding district can now look forward to moving those studies back to a setting tailored for every possible need.”

Minister Cannon added; “As we reflect on what has been achieved with Clarin College, it is important to pay tribute to the resilience of our students across the county who, restricted in their movement like everyone else and without their company of their peers, have simply gotten in with their work.

“The new Clarin College and the many other facilities in Galway that have received and continue to receive significant Government investment, are entirely about our students and their futures.”
