Galway industries which need workers

We have nearly completed our fourth week in lockdown, and nearly 500,000 people in Ireland have been counting the economic cost of the global pandemic, as hospitality, retail, and many other sectors have halted in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Those who have been left with no job have been seeking the Pandemic Unemployment Payment of €350 a week to try to tide them over while all non-essential businesses remain closed.

However while many businesses have been forced to temporarily close their doors to the world, there are industries which have seen a boom in workload which necessitates the requirement for new employees. Here at advertiser.ie we highlight a few sectors in Galway which are hiring due to their status as essential providers during the Covid-19 lockdown.

MedTech

The MedTech sector in Galway has been one of the biggest employers in the city and county for a number of years. However, its services have never been more in demand than now with the coronavirus pandemic. Medtronic is currently engaged in a hiring speed and plans to employ 300 workers on 12-month contracts in its Mervue facility to work on the manufacture of ventilators. There is also an abundance of engineers and chemistry analysts positions available in Creganna. Sigmar Recruitment is also currently looking to fill various positions in the MedTech industry

Healthcare

We have always needed healthcare workers, but 2020 is the year we truly learned their value to our city and county. The HSE has called out for doctors, nurses, and all healthcare workers to sign up in the fight against the coronavirus. The need for doctors and nurses is obvious, but care assistants are also in massive demand due to the restrictions placed on the movements of elderly people. Classifieds.advertiser.ie has a number of positions available for care workers. Many who have trained in this field have decided to take some time away from the sector due to the intense workloads. However, if you find yourself perhaps unemployed, there has never been a more important time to pull on the scrubs again to help Galway in the crusade against Covid-19. Online teaching

It may seem like time has stood still with most of us confined to our homes save for the trip to the supermarket or the 2km exercise; however, time waits for no one, and even though schools are closed until further notice, the Leaving Cert examinations will soon be upon us and the need for online tutoring is in high demand. If you find yourself out of work and have a skill such as a language that is on the school curriculum, then online grinds is a potential stream of income that may not have been available to you before. Check out classifieds.advertiser.ie for available tutoring positions.

Supermarket sales assistants

The retail sector has been decimated by the Government enforced lockdown. However, supermarkets and chemists are booming. Shop assistants in these stores have been designated as essential workers by the Government and with many supermarkets seeing the increase in footfall as well as the need to social distance, they are increasing their opening hours, and need more employees to cover those times. Joyce's Supermarkets are currently looking for general assistants in Galway.
