Clarity needed on Government's financial package being offered to student nurses

TD Catherine Connolly asks what plan is should a student nurse contract Covid-19

The Government must clarify its position on the financial package to be offered to student nurses who have been re-called for placement in hospitals throughout the State.

This is the view of Independent Galway West TD, Catherine Connolly, who has welcomed the partial reinstatement of Dáil questions, although the allowed questions are only in relation to Covid-19 and its impact.

"This brings back some measure of accountability and oversight of the Government," she said, "and I have tabled several Dáil questions in relation to payments to student nurses."

As well as seeking information regarding payments to student nurses, she has also asked for clarification on the "steps being taken to protect the health and well-being" of these students in the event any one of them becomes symptomatic of and/or contracts Covid-19.

Regarding students more generally, Dep Connolly will also be asking the Government for clarification on what progress, if any, has been made by the Minister for Education in relation to students who have vacated private student accommodation.
