Normally, 1916 Rising commemorations would be held in Galway City, Oranmore, Clifden, Ballinasloe, and other areas of the county over the Easter weekend, but the coronavirus lockdown has forced these to go online.
Sinn Féin Galway West TD, Mairéad Farrell, said that, due to the current restrictions on travel and assembly, the party would instead organise an online National Easter Commemoration at 3pm on Easter Sunday. There will be music and song, and a speech by party president, Mary Lou McDonald. It can be viewed on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and sinnfein.ie
Throughout the week, Sinn Féin will also host various videos and photographic exhibitions online. Dep Farrell is also encouraging people to wear an Easter Lily, and to put Easter 1916 imagery, artwork etc, in windows and online, "as was done for Lá Fhéile Phádraig", and to fly a tricolour.
