Played in blustery conditions in Drom, Galway u-16s overcame Donegal 3-1, advancing to the semi-final of the Paul O'Neill Cup to play Wicklow.
Donegal started strongly and had a number of chances in the first period and deservedly went in with a 1-0 lead at the break. However the Galway lads staged a comeback in the second half, and a driving break into the box by Joe Shaughnessy saw the Galway player upended and the resulting penalty was converted by Enda Curran.
Both Sean Glynn and Daryl Horgan tormented the Donegal full backs and the busy Michael Collins made life uncomfortable for the Donegal centre halfs. From this constant pressure Galway took the lead with a well worked quick free-kick involving Shane Gallagher and Daryl Horgan who set up Curran for his second of the game.
Galway finished the stronger when Curran completed his hat-trick with a tremendous strike in the 75th minute.
