Corrib Basketball Club ladies team were flying the flag for Oughterard and Killanin at senior level this season in winning the Galway League division two crown this season. The club, with a membership of 224, caters for men, ladies, and children from u-8 to u-16, continuing the tradition that has developed in the area since 1944. The u-12 girls team won the shield in the Listowel Primary School Tournament 2008, while the u-13 and u-14 boys have both qualified for the All Ireland Club Championship competition in Athlone. The u-13 boys ousted favourites Claregalway having trailed by 13 points at one stage. However they fought hard to bring the game to extra time and came away with victory. The u-14 girls also had a sweet victory over an unbeaten Maree team.
