MCnG’s concert series celebrates 10th anniversary

Fundraising shows to being with a piano recital by Laoise McMullen

MAOIN CHEOIL na Gaillimhe will marks its 10th anniversary with a series of benefit concerts to raise awareness and funds for local community groups.

The first concert will feature former student, the pianist Laoise McMullen, on Saturday March 14 at 7pm in Scoil Chroí Íosa, Newcastle Road. While admission is free, donations are welcome and all money from the night will go to the Galway Autism Partnership.

Further concerts in the series will be a performance by Fidil, MCnG's youth string orchestra and MCnG teachers Róbert Sólyóm and Judit Csüllög (April, raising funds for Galway Community Circus ); and Hungarian pianists Erzsébet Marík and Krisztina Várady, will play a unique composition for six hands with MCnG teacher, Judit Csüllög (in May, proceeds going to Emer Lenihan, an 18-year-old from Claregalway, pursuing a career in ballet ).

“Expect an exciting series of high impact performances from local and international groups, past students and current teachers," said MCnG director Hugh Kelly. "Much of our energy and drive comes from living in this city which has such a vibrant and exciting arts culture. As we celebrate our anniversary we felt it appropriate to give something back to the larger community."

Doors for the Laoise McMullen concert are at 6.30 pm. For more information see Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe on Facebook.
