Book club and Mother's Day at the Pálás

Mommie Dearest in focus and a floral themed event for Mother's Day

MOMMIE DEAREST by Christina Crawford, the adopted daughter of actress Joan Crawford, is the book and film for the next meeting of the Pálás Cinema's book club, on March 31.

Mommie Dearest described the author's upbringing by an unbalanced alcoholic mother, whom she judged unfit to raise children. In the film version, Crawford (Faye Dunaway ) takes in two orphans, and at first the family seems happy. However, after Joan's attempts at romantic fulfillment go sour, her abusive behaviour towards her daughter Christina (Diana Scarwid ) becomes more pronounced.

Buy a copy of Mommie Dearest from Charlie Byrne's Bookshop, show your receipt at the box office, and get 10 per cent off your cinema ticket. Upcoming Cinema Book Club meetings will focus on The Social Network, The Colour Purple, Marathon Man, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
