ARRACHT, the new Irish language feature film from Tom Sullivan, starring Dónall Ó Héalaí, Seán T Ó Meallaigh, and Pádraic Breathach, will receive a special pre-release screening in Indreabhán.
The film, a character-driven thriller set before the outbreak of the Great Famine, will be screened in Seanscoil Sailearna this evening [Thursday March 13] at 8.15pm.
Created as part of the CINE4 initiative from TG4, Screen Ireland, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, it was shot mainly in Leitir Mealláin and features a cast of Connemara actors, including Saise Ní Chuinn, Dava Devaney, Eoin Ó Dubhgaill, and Conall Ó Céidigh.
Arracht (which means monster ) tells the story of a fisherman who takes in a stranger at the request of a priest, leading to tragic personal struggles, but hope comes in the form of a young girl who needs his help. At last week's Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, Arracht won Best Irish Film, while Dónal Ó Héalaí won Best Actor.
The screening is a presentation of Club Scannán Sailearna and Access Cinema. To reserve a seat email [email protected]. The film is due to go on general release on April 3. See www.clubscannan.ie
