Doctor 365 walk-in medical centre and out of hours service opens in Galway

Doctor 365 is a new extended opening hours GP service that has opened its doors in Galway, offering patients access to be seen by a doctor seven days a week, 365 days a year.

The new clinic opened its doors in December 2019 and offers a walk-in service located at 3 University Halls, Newcastle Road. The first of its kind in Galway, the centre will offer patients a GP service from 10am to 9pm (closed 3pm to 4pm for lunch daily ) seven days a week, including bank holidays and Christmas.

The consultation fee to visit one of the doctors at Doctor 365 is €40 and patients do not need to make appointment to be seen by a doctor.

The service is owned and run by Drs Mohamed Hafiz, Abdul Rashid, and Sajjad Ashfaq. These doctors have many years' experience in both general practice and urgent care. The clinic offers a range of GP services such as repeat prescriptions, minor surgery, blood tests, referral to A&E, and referrals for X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans. The service also caters for patients requiring dressing, nebulising, ear syringing, and family planning.

Dr Hafiz said that from his experience it was clear that a significant number of patients were unable to get urgent GP appointments, sometimes leaving them with little options but to attend A&E.

“Many GP services are booked up days in advance, while some patients find it difficult to attend during normal hours," he said. "As such we feel the extended hours, walk-in model fulfils a vital need for the community.” Dr Hafiz and his colleagues are hoping their clinic will accommodate patients who need to be seen urgently while also reducing pressure on traditional out-of-hours services.
