African women and women of African descent will gather in Galway this weekend to hold discussions on how racism and cancer affect women’s mental health, and to honour various women and organisations.
The Amdalah Africa Foundation will hold the Africa Women Roundtable and Intercultural EPIC Awards this Saturday [March 7] at The Ardilaun Hotel, Taylor's Hill, from 3pm to 8pm. The event will also feature games, a cultural display, and dance.
The event will seek to create a wider understanding of the effects of cancer, racism, and mental health issues on migrants; create an enabling platform for African women to discuss their experiences and differing identities; address barriers in accessing support, services, and justice; review the effectiveness and results of government interventions and policies; celebrate hard work and dedication; and unite Africans and promote positive image of African cultural values.
AMDAF is a not-for-profit women's organisation in Galway, established to contribute to the protection and promotion of the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of women of African descent and their families in Galway and across Ireland. The Intercultural EPIC (Excellence, Positive Impact and Community development ) Awards celebrates women and organisations who contribute positively to inclusion and development of people in Ireland.
The event is co-sponsored by Galway Rural Development SICAP and Galway City Partnership. Admission is free and all are welcome.
