Artists to explore Irish women's experience of the courts and legal system in new exhibition

IRISH WOMEN'S experience of, and engagement with, the courts and legal system in dealing with domestic violence and abuse, is the theme of a new exhibition at the Engage Art Studios, Salthill.

Home Truths, featuring work by Blaise Drummond, Evelyn Glynn, Alison Lowry, Áine Philips and Ruby Wallis, is part of Galway 2020’s Small Towns Big Ideas programme. The artists were commissioned to respond to women’s testimonies of their court experiences.

The exhibitions open this Saturday 7 at 4pm, as part of the Wild Atlantic Women weekend, with guest speaker, author and journalist Susan McKay. On Sunday March 8, International Women’s Day, there will be a performance of Ritual of Memory: Reparation by Áine Philips from 4pm to 6pm

On Wednesday March 11, artist Evelyn Glynn will lead a discussion from 2pm to 4pm for people who would like an opportunity to talk about the exhibition. Advance booking for this is essential via [email protected].

The exhibition is a presentation of Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture, Galway Domestic Violence Response, and Engage Art Studios. Admission is free and all are welcome.
