GMIT Brexit lecture
Martina Lawless, research professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI ) will deliver a public lecture on the topic “Brexit and the Irish Economy” to final year GMIT business students on Monday 2 March, 1pm (Room 939 ), GMIT Galway (Dublin Road ) campus. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
After three years of exit negotiations, the UK is officially no longer a member of the EU since 31 January 2020. This date is more the end of the beginning than the finalisation of the process, with a new phase of negotiations to decide the longer-term relationship between the UK and EU about to commence. Professor Lawless’ lecture looks at some of the economic issues likely to dominate this second phase and the implications for Ireland of the different outcomes at stake.
Martina Lawless joined the ESRI in 2015 and her research focuses primarily on firm-level dynamics, covering a range of topics such job turnover, exporting, wage setting and foreign direct investment. Ruth Coppinger to launch Seanad campaign in Galway
Former Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger will be in NUI Galway today (Thursday ) to meet with students, graduates, staff, and the broader public, to launch her Seanad election campaign.
While at the university, she will discuss the housing crisis, delivering women’s equality and LGBT+ rights, abolishing fees, and “ending precarity in colleges and workplaces. The meeting will take place from 1pm in The Space, Áras na Mac Léinn, NUIG.
