Sinn Féin to hold public rally in Salthill next week

Party president Mary Lou McDonald likey to address meeting at Galway Bay Hotel

Sinn Féin will hold a public rally in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, from 7.30pm on Friday March 6 as part of its drive to be involved in the next Government, and to "bring the conversation about a Government for Change to the people".

The meeting is likely to be addressed by party president, Mary Lou McDonald, while the party's newly elected Galway West TD, Mairéad Farrell, is encouraging the public to attend.

"I look forward to engaging with all those who want real change," she said. "The Sinn Féin negotiations team have been stepping up their engagements with other parties to bring about a Government for Change and we know it can happen if the political will exists in other parties and among progressive-minded independents."

Reacting to news that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael will be meeting to explore the possibility of forming a 'grand coalition', Dep Farrell said: "Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael's plan to carve-up political power between themselves and to block change is a rejection of what people voted for. The people clearly voted for a change of government on February 8."

She said the next government must build homes in urban and rural communities, cut and freeze rents, guarantee a pension at 65 years of age, tackle the trolley crisis in hospitals such as UHG and Portiuncula, address climate change, and work towards Irish unity.
