"NEVER BEFORE have I been to a gig where the atmosphere has been so electric." So said The Irish News about the long running, legendary Irish band, The 4 of Us, who are coming to Galway in April.
The 4 of Us, centred on brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy, and best known for such hits as 'Mary' and 'Drag My Bad Name Down', play Padraicins, Furbo, Connemara, on Saturday April 4 at 9pm.
The band will play songs from across their career, including from their most recent album, the critically acclaimed Sugar Island, which deals with their experiences of growing up in County Down during 'The Troubles'.
Speaking about their classic single 'Mary' to The Sunday Times, Brendan said: “Is it the best melody we’ve ever written? Yeah probably. Do I think it’s the catchiest lyric I’ve ever written? Yeah probably. Do I think it’s the best lyric I’ve ever written? No. But I’m proud of the fact it’s a story song, talks about domestic violence and has grit, even if it doesn’t sound like it. Would I like another [hit]? Absolutely. But I know I’m not 25, and my audience aren’t in their teens, so it’s harder. I’m not making music for those people any more. And, you know what? I don’t have to, because I have enough of an audience that we can do what we want."
The 4 of Us have been featured on TV3's Top Ten Irish Bands of All Time and in Today FM's Top Five Irish Singles, and supported Fairport Convention and Robert Plant’s Saving Grace.
