Maria Shiel to launch debut EP

Songs written by the Atlantic Ocean, inspired by Irish migrants and their journeys to the USA

MARIA SHIEL, the Galway singer-songwriter, will launch her debut EP, Ebb Of The Wave, on Friday February 28 with a gig in the upstairs bar of the Róisín Dubh.

For the show, Maria will be joined by her band, The Delamars - Richie Dietrich (drums ), Sam Wright (bass ), and Eoghan Holland (guitar ). Maria's music is influenced by the landscape of the west of Ireland and the sounds of Americana. The songs explore the theme of emigration from Ireland to the USA, and the artist describes her music as ‘transatlantic sea folk’.

“The songs were written by the Atlantic Ocean," she said. "Generations of my family are from this part of Ireland so the longing of the sea is ever-present; and so is the calling to lands across that sea, namely the USA and its music."

Doors are at 8pm. Support is from Ben Turner. Admission is €5. The EP can be streamed on Soundcloud. See also www.mariadelamar.com
