Lyra - Róisín Dubh show in March

Rising star of Irish pop is set for great things in 2020

SHE HAS been called "the new Kate Bush" by The Examiner; she supported Gavin James at the 3 Arena in Dublin; while Universal, the world’s largest record label, shortlisted her as an artist to watch for 2020.

Little wonder Cork electro-pop singer-songwriter Lyra told The Examiner recently, “I’m one of those people that needs to be busy. And I’m going to be really busy in the year ahead.” Part of that busyness will be her headline show at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday March 3 at 7.30pm.

Lyra came to attention with the release of the singles 'Falling', 'Never Let Go', and particularly 'Mother', which was inspired by advice she received from her own mum.

"My mum always told me to rise above it all, accept myself as I was, to be proud of that and enjoy life," Lyra said. "That advice often felt hard to follow but she never stopped reminding me. I still have insecurities - who doesn’t - but this song’s a reminder to pick your ass up and go hell for leather with anything and everything you want to do - and always remember to encourage others to do the exact same!”

Her music has been playlisted on 2FM, Today FM, and Spin, and she also performed at the second stage at Electric Picnic 2019. She has sold-out headline shows in London and Dublin, and supported Jess Glynne, Dermot Kennedy and James Bay. Her cover of Dusty Springfield's 'I Only Want To Be With You' was featured on the Hulu mini-series Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and the Róisín Dubh.
